Innovation for a Safer Future: Insights from the 2nd International Road Safety Conference in Orlando

Road safety is more critical than ever, being a central theme of the 2nd International Road Safety Conference (IRSC) held from June 23 to 26 in Orlando. Every day, more than 3,700 people lose their lives on roads worldwide, a staggering figure that highlights the urgency to develop effective solutions.

Organized by the Transportation Research Board, the conference brought together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders under the theme “Innovating for a Safer System”.
They shared their latest research and innovations aimed at reducing accidents and fatalities on the roads, addressing this global challenge.

Innovation at the Heart of Safety Debates and Peer Exchanges

The conference focused on several key areas: advancements in the development of road safety infrastructure and equipment, as well as peer exchanges. These discussions covered various aspects of road safety, including technological innovations for vehicle safety and speed regulation strategies. This setting not only highlighted innovative research but also helped forge a network of experts committed to ongoing collaboration. The discussions also addressed alarming statistics, such as those revealed by an iRAP study, showing that 47% of turns on roads at speeds of 50 mph or more have roadside edges that increase the risk of fatal accidents.

Elan City’s Commitment: At the Heart of Sustainable Innovation

As a committed player in road safety, Elan City supports this event and goes beyond by developing and implementing innovative and sustainable equipment, like the EVOLIS Radar Speed Sign. These devices are designed to reduce speeding by an average of 15 to 20%, while avoiding punitive measures. The EVOLIS Vision system influences driver behavior by visually displaying their speed, prompting them to slow down. By continuing to innovate and implement effective strategies, we are moving closer to a road system where deaths and serious injuries are increasingly preventable.
